Work in 2×2 rib: alternate 2 knit stitches through the front loop and 2 purl stitches through the back loop.
Continue in this pattern for 40 rounds (including the cast-on round).

Round 41: knit 2 stitches together following the pattern (2 knit stitches together as knit, 2 purl stitches together as purl).
Round 42: work in 1×1 rib.

Leave a yarn tail of approximately 50 cm and thread it onto a tapestry needle.
Gradually remove the stitches from the needle, threading the tapestry needle through each released stitch.
Pull the stitches tight.
Sew the top of the hat from the wrong side of the work.
Turn the finished hat right side out.
